Facilitated diffusion
Solution:
Facilitated diffusion is a type of passive transport that occurs across the cell membrane. It involves the movement of molecules across the membrane down their concentration gradient with the help of specific membrane proteins (carrier proteins or channel proteins). It does not require metabolic energy (ATP). Since it involves proteins, it is sensitive to inhibitors that can bind to these proteins and block their activity. Membrane proteins facilitate the movement of substances down an existing concentration gradient; they do not create the gradient.
