Inspiration in humans is brought about by
Solution:
Inspiration is the process of taking air into the lungs. It is an active process brought about by the contraction of the diaphragm and the external intercostal muscles. When the diaphragm contracts, it flattens and moves downwards. Simultaneously, the external intercostal muscles contract, pulling the ribs and sternum upwards and outwards. These actions increase the volume of the thoracic cavity, which in turn decreases the intrapulmonary pressure below atmospheric pressure, causing air to rush into the lungs.
