Vitamin B₁₂ and mucus

Mucus and pepsinogen

4

Pepsinogen and mucus

Solution:

Mucus neck cells in the stomach secrete mucus, which lubricates and protects the stomach lining from the acidic environment. Peptic cells, also known as chief cells, secrete pepsinogen, which is converted into the active enzyme pepsin in the presence of hydrochloric acid (secreted by parietal cells). Pepsin is responsible for protein digestion. Therefore, mucus neck cells secrete mucus and peptic cells secrete pepsinogen, respectively.
